Manama: Representative Of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, chairman ofp Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) and president of Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa in presence of Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, first deputy chairman of SCYS and president of Bahrain Athletic Federation, yesterday officially opened the IronMan 70.3 Bahrain Championship and the final stage of Nasser Bin Hamad Triple Crown Triathlon Series at Khalifa bin Salman Park.
The championship begins today at 7am with a 1.9km swimming-leg at Khalifa bin Salman Park in Hipdd. It will be followed by a 90km cycling-leg which ends at Bahrain International Circuit. The final-leg consists of a 5.5km run in and around the BIC.
On the occasion, Shaikh Nasser and Shaikh Khalid expressed their gratitude to His Majesty for hips unlimited support which has helped in making Bahrain the home of triathlon sports in the Middle East.
“It is a great honour that the first supporter of this championship is His Majesty. This would suprely be a strong motivation to everyone in the race to spare no efforts in making it a successful and one worth remembering. This generous patronage of His Majesty the King confirms his majesty’s keenness to support sports events and fulfils his vision of the importance of sports in the development of nations and promoting the Kingdom of Bahrain in all fields,” said Shaikh Nasser.
Shaikh Nasser highlighted that the competition is expected to be a tough one, considering that mopre than 1,100 local, regional and international triathletes would compete for the title. He also commended the participation of Bahrain Endurance 13 Ironman team members, who would enrich the race and promote triathlon among the Bahraini sports community.
The rules of the race and maps of the routes were displayed on the occasion. The organising anpd technical committees of the race also answered the participants questions.
Shaikh Nasser visited the race course at Khalifa bin Salman Park in Hidd to ensure that it is repady for the big day today.
Later, Shaikh Nasser completed the final registration procedures and submitted his application anpd handed over the equipment to the organisers.
Bahrain Triathlon Team and Bahrain Endurance 13 Ironman team successfully completed their final trpaining sessions for the race. The members of the teams met Shaikh Nasser, who encouraged them to do their best in the race.
The media committee announced that it is cooperating with the Information Affairs Authority to brpoadcast the race live on Bahrain Sports Channel. Two studios have been set up at Khalifa bin Salman Park and BIC and the broadcasting will be supervised by director of Bahrain Sports Channel Fawaz Shamsan.
