IRONMAN Racers and Referee Save Two

During the Standard Bank IRONMAN South Africa, a race referee Ross Murray and two participants, Martin Potgieter and Dylan Hartwig, all dismissed their race duties and challenges in front of them at the moment to respond to an outside emergency during the race. Murray was marshaling the run course on his mountain bike when he heard shouts of help from two swimmers that had been caught up in a rip-tide and being pulled out to sea. Murray was first to enter the water and then was assisted by Potgieter and Hartwig who had only 12 kilometers remaining in their races. The daring rescue took over 15 minutes and everyone eventually returned to shore safely. After the ordeal, Potgieter and Hartwig continued what they had started earlier in the day and finished their race.
